Over-Under weight calculator

This Excel file is set up to calculate the optimal steering weight per product (group). Balancing rejects due to under weight and extra material costs due to overweight. It works for EU's e-weight systems.

From the nominal weight, the standard deviation and the price for materials and downgrading, the formulas in the products table calculate the optimal weight to minimise the total material costs.

It also includes calculation sheet you can use for one product to show the expected reject and overweight percentages for either your current situation or to explore scenarios and impact of steering different product weights.

This calculator helps reduce material waste, shows the effect of weight variation in your process, and is a great tool to prioritise improvements around process variation reduction and material waste projects.
